Family Reunification Program and Parenting Classes

Family Reunification Program and Parenting Classes

This six-month program provides a framework for participants to develop strategies in relapse prevention, a support system, self esteem building, establishing and defining boundaries while learning to care for self. Participants are introduced to vocational training opportunities and assisted in meeting requirements of Department of Children and Family Services in retaining or regaining custody of their children.

Parenting Classes

NCADD uses the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) program which has been used with more than three million parents/caregivers over the past two decades nationwide. This twelve weekly two- hour parent education study group helps parents/caregivers learn effective ways to relate to their children. By identifying the purposes of children’s behavior, STEP also helps parents/caregivers learn how not to reinforce their children’s unacceptable behaviors and how to encourage cooperative behavior. The program offers concrete alternatives to abusive, ineffective methods of discipline and control.
